University of Kent researchers.

“Underactive thyroid is a particularly nasty thing to have and it can lead to other long term health problems. I do think councils need to think again about putting fluoride in the water. There are far safer ways to improve dental health,” said Professor Stephen Peckham, Centre for Health Service Studies; who is also the lead author.

According to the research which was carried out in England and published in the British medical Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Medical records of 7,935 GP practices were compared, and scientists found out that, patients had considerably higher rates of underactive thyroid in practices situated in areas where water fluoridation levels were 0.3 mg/l or higher.

Scientists from University of Kent concluded, fluoride in drinking water causes thyroid problems, a health complication that is linked to depression, fatigue and weight gain; and subsequently encourage authorities to puts halt on water fluoridation.
