Exercise
Study shows that regular exercise as an antidepressant can help improve your mood. People with Bipolar disorder are at a higher risk of obesity and heart disease. Thus, regular exercise is ideal as it releases endorphins which helps sleep better.
Amino Acids
Amino Acids like taurine, phenylalanine, S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM-e) are thought to regulate and to boost the production of certain chemicals responsible for mood regulation. The chemicals include dopamine, and norepinephrine. You are advised to talk with your doctor how to go about this lest you get hurt with the side effects.
Omega-3 fatty Acids
A Massachusetts General Hospital study confirmed manic symptoms could be reduced among people suffering from bipolar disorder if given omega-3 supplements over a period of time. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to lower triglycerides and help maintain heart health.
“If you look at countries where they eat a lot of fish, they have relatively low incidence of bipolar disorder. In the brain, we think omega-3s might help with moving neurotransmitters in and out, which may help stabilize moods,” says Muskin. “
People suffering from bipolar disorder are therefore motivated to start eating more fish that are heavy in omega-3s, such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines.
