Bobby Fischer, the greatest chess player of all time once talked about his usefulness to the U.S Nation:
“Nobody has single-handedly done more for the U.S. image than me. … [Before I came along] the U.S. had an image of a football country, baseball country, but nobody thought of it as an intellectual country. I turned all that around single-handedly.”
“You have to mix with all those stupid kids. And the teachers are even stupider than the kids,” added Fischer, when asked why he drop out of school at the age of 16.
According to Boris Spassky, the American Chess grandmaster was never a sociable person, and was unwilling to compromise.
